The Prong Collar

The prong collar is a highly effective training collar when used properly however that being said it’s not the collar for every dog.

The prong collar doesn’t come with instructions and it’s certainly not self-explanatory. Trainers that exclude the prong collar from their toolbox are short changing their clients and their dawgs.  From a visual perspective the prong collar definitely lacks curb side appeal.  Many have said that it looks like a mid evil torture device.

If you’re going to choose to use the prong collar on your dog I recommend the Sprenger Brand.I always tell people to first try it on YOUR calf or your forearm or your NECK before trying it on your DOG. I think it’s important that you feel and experience what you’re about to subject your dog to. You will be surprised to discover the device doesn’t cause excruciating pain to you.

FYI : Anyone considering using a prong collar to train their dog prior to doing so I would be happy to provide you with a free consultation to teach you how to use it safely and humanely and of course effectively.

IMPORTANT to note that there are no two dogs the same , each dog has their own personality, disposition and individual temperament. I don’t believe the prong collar is for EVERY DOG.

I often recommend a Regular Flat Buckle Collar or a Martingale Training Collar to my students. If you’re interested in my professional opinion and expertise, I would be happy to recommend what collar would be most compatible with your dog at this current stage of your dog‘s life.

Important to note that I don’t have a favourite training collar , we need to be open minded and realize that there is no one particular training collar that works on every dog.
