Toonie as a five pound powerhouse maltese – spirited and loving – She had a wonderful time at training – IT IS FOR SMALL DOGS TOO -to this day, she loves her red collar and a chance to go to training. I have four dogs, but Toonie and I are special as a result of our time at training. No one should miss an opportunity to share the success with their “best friend” – Toonie now competes in Rally Obedience. She is just two years old and she has six titles, two second place finishes and one third place. She has never finished out of the top three. Thanks, Dave for your guidance and your wisdom – from Tracey and Toonie (T n’ T).
I first went to Dave 10.5 years ago with my boxer. Over the past few years I have taken 3 more dogs and can’t get enough of Dave’s great philosophy…so I am now apprenticing with Dave to become a certified trainer myself. Dave’s detailed approach is similar to a job task analysis and he leaves no room for dog masters to wonder if they have missed a step. He gives rhyme and reason for every technique he teaches. You will receive constructive criticism because Dave cares. If you have had the privilege to be in one of his classes you will soon realize it is Dave’s goal to make your relationship with your dog better and that all students are successful with training their dog. Dave’s balanced, structured and detailed training methods are the best I have seen in the market. Dave teaches with style. His witty personality will keep you coming back for more. Dog training is a lifestyle and Dave certainly gives the best bark for your bite! ..I mean bang for your buck.
I have been attending McMahons Dog Academy over the past 5 years and have found the instruction to be professional, clear and fun. Dave really creates a training environment that is both fun and rewarding for the dog and master. I am sure that Dave is the first trainer in Niagara to ever train a clowns dog. Dave you are diversified and just plain FANTABULOUS. I think if you were not a dog trainer the world would be a less joyous place to be. We have a great time when we are with you

I have been training my Lab Coda for 5 years and have introduced my new puppy also to Dave’s training methods. He is an excellent trainer and is the best in the K9 training business. As one of his apprentices I have learned so much about dog training and I am really enjoying his course.
Thanks for everything
Tanya, Coda, Maui
I have been apprenticing with Dave since November 2005 and I find his methods produce results. I have seen other trainers and no one can come close to the detailed and straight forward methods of Dave. I enjoy being a student of Dave’s because I believe in his training methods. I look forward to learning all that I can from him.
I have been training dogs in the Ottawa area since 1996. In the fall of 2005 I attended a week long Detection & Protection course given be Dave.
His methods are humane, balanced ,efficient and they work. As a trainer I must admit that I learned an incredible amount from Dave McMahon.
During the week I was there I did attend all of the classes he was instructing. Never once was there any harshness towards handler or dog, rather, I saw a lot of happy owners with dogs well trained at various levels.
I will be back to train with Dave McMahon.
Regards,
Glen Hossack
It never occurred to me that a small dog needed formal training. Boy was I wrong! What a disservice I did by not making the time to train the three Maltese and our first Havanese. Watching Halle’s level of excitement escalate when I mention it is a school night is priceless! She loves class, and is slowly overcoming her apprehension of the larger dogs.
Thanks Dave for all your help!
i have just started my 2 dogs in dave’s classes and already wow they are changing for the better they are much eaiser to live with and walking them wow i now enjoy it, keep up the good work and i can’t wait to become an apprentices it is my life long dream to be a good dog trainer and if i am half as good as dave it will be a dream come true. yours truly bobbi echo and eddie
When we first got our Old English Bulldog I was worried we had made a huge mistake. We have 2 small kids and 2 cats and a Jack Russel already. So I asked around and Dave was rumoured to be the man to go see. Things sure have changed for Duke and us. And when I have a question I stress about and wonder about I just call Duke’s Uncle Dave. He knows the answer to everything and his answers always make sense and give me peace of mind. No matter what it is. He always takes the time to talk to you and make sure things are okay with the training. He complements and kindly critisizes. What Dave says just always MAKES SENSE and IT WORKS. And all those Petsmart people who frown upon us for using prong colars IT WORKS, and it is humane when used properly. I have had a few run-ins with Petsmart and I found myself everytime thinking why didn’t I just ask Dave first?!?!
So to any of you out there reading this who think it is hopeless when it comes to your dog. CALL DAVE !!! He is so nice and funny and right on the money when it comes to dogs ! No matter what the situation Dave can help !!
When I adopted a 4 year old English Springer Spaniel I discovered that she was going to be a bit of a challenge. I couldn’t walk her well because she pulled too much and while she was clearly intelligent, she didn’t necessarily listen and has a few minor behavioural issues.
I brought her to Dave and the change was almost instantaneous. Mally still has a few things to work through, but Dave has been encouraging and has explained exactly what to do and for how long, taking a step by step approach. Her little behaviour issues are disappearing one by one and it hasn’t been hard to do. I am always being complimented on what a “good dog” she is. Thanks Dave.
Thanks Dave. You have helped make our “somewhat dysfunctional” 100lb lap dog into an “almost civilized” member of the family. We see improvements on a daily basis. Keep up the good work!
I was ready to give my chihuahua X pomeranian away. Then I met Dave. I enrolled her in the novice course. Dave’s encouragement was great. “Don’t get frustrated”, he’d say, “Little dogs are harder to train.” I’ve stuck with it, and now, my little 4 pounder is great to live with. We receive so many compliments from people who saw her before her training, and how she is now. They ask, “What’s your secret?” I say, “Dave McMahon!”
Hi Dave
When I started your beginers class I was somewhat frustrated with the behaviour of my wired Black Lab. I sucessfully completed your beginers class. I am now able to enjoy the progress as my best friend and I learn your training philosophy, which has allowed her to rapidly develop skills that are now becoming usefull in everyday life as well as furthering her ability to be trained and handled as a field dog. Thank you and all of your hard working apprentices for givinging me additonal advice on proper handling which will allow Dakota to perform to the highest level of her ability. I strongly suggest that anyone looking to see GUARANTEED results from thier hours spent training with thier dog, spend 15 minutes observing one of Dave’s sessions and you will see the difference in obediance and training that many of us students have experienced with our own dogs, which keeps us and will keep you coming back for more.
Once again thanks for all of your help
Your Friends Frank, Jaimie and Dakota
Dave, I can’t thank you enough for giving my “girls” such a great start in our journey of canine obedience for life! If it wasn’t for our move, I’d be with ya forever, lol.
My best to all my training partners too esp, John and little Katie, Franca and lab Chevy. I will miss you alll!!!
I started training with Dave about 6 years ago with my Doberman Ashley. Dave helped me to work out some issues with her, and a year later I also enrolled my new dobe Abbott. Both dogs stayed with Dave for several years with obedience and agility.
The best part about Dave is that he is there for you long after you finish training. A year ago I lost Abbott, and the effect on Ashley was devastating. I did not know what to do with her, so I called the pro. I left a message that I needed his advice, and he called me back within an hour. I will always be thankful for his wisdom and compassion for a former student.
Now I’m back with Yankee the golden doodle. His classes have changed somewhat but are still a whole lot of fun. He has taught me to train a much more sensitive dog in a way that works for him.
Thanks Dave
Well first off, Dave McMahon is no doubt one of the best and most experienced professional trainers in the industry. This man knows his stuff.
I have read many books, studied other trainers but nothing compares to the experience and training that I received from my time with Dave McMahon. As he swept me under his wings I was able to experience and see how much he truly loves what he does. I love that about him.
Because of the course that I took with Dave Apprenticing under him and being his shadow for about a year, has given me the education and hands on training that I needed to now go off and start my own Dog training business.
Dave is my teacher, and my mentor, but most of all Dave is my friend. And what a great friend to have.
Thank you for the love, the passion and the time that you are willing to give to those who want to learn. God bless you
Hi everyone,
I like to take my owners ( mom and dad) to school just as many times a week as they will take me. I’m learning pretty good ~ but i do like to do things my way and always keep ‘em wondering what I’m going to do next. I really like to sniff the other students — soooo sorry – I’m such a sneek _ but I am just a puppy ! Thanks Dave for your kindness and great school. Praise your owners !
We have been taking our labrador retriever, Vinny, to Dave McMahon for over 3 years. As a result, our dog is obediant and well-behaved. Vinny would not be the dog he is today if it were not for Dave McMahon!
Dave is an expert dog trainer in all types of training including obediance, agility, and protection. We truly value Dave’s advice on how to care for our dog.
Dave McMahon’s Dog Training methods are fabulous and I could not recommend anyone better than Dave to train any dog for any subject. Be it basic to advanced obedience, agility, tracking or protection Dave McMahon knows dogs. His credentials speak for themselves. Many trainers I’ve been to (and I’ve been to many) have the passion for dogs but thier people skills are nothing to write home about. Dave McMahon is just as fabulous with people as he is with the dogs and lets face it, it’s the humans that are being trained to train thier own dogs so what good is a dog trainer who can’t deal well with humans too? Dave’s got it all. There’s many methods and theories out there in the training world and in my experiences they are usually one extreme or the other.
Dave McMahon’s method are the most perfect blend of correctional based guidance and reward I’ve ever seen. Dave McMahon knows K9 behavior from over 20 years experience, and his passion to teach the humans who love thier best freinds is undying and devoted. Dave truly does make man’s best freind better! So if you have a new pup, a rescue, or your just dog sitting for a while, drop by and check out Dave McMahon’s Dog Training Academy, you won’t regret it and you and your dog will have a great time!
Dave, has been training our dog, Vinny, and me for over three years. Dave has trained Vinny and me in obedience, agility, protection and detection. Dave has advised us on what Dog foods to buy and avoid as well as on general canine health. Recently, Dave saved Vinny’s life when Vinny bloated. Dave recognized the symptoms and immediately rushed Vinny to the emergency clinic in time to have emergency surgury. Dave, his lovely wife Debbie and their beautiful girls Christina and Brittney have become Vinny’s surrogate family and our good friends.
sorry to cancel this week. See you next week. Trooper is like a new dog around here, wouldn’t have achieved this without your help. Thanx for giving me my sanity back
Our 6 month GSD just passed level one training Monday night! Dave’s classes have taught us so much- our
young dog is obediant and has exceptional house manners-better than our previous dog did at 10yrs old (she had no prof training). Daves advise and guidance is practical, thorough, and it WORKS! We’re amazed with our dogs progress. The private classes are well worth the time & money–we’re looking forward to level 2!!
p.s. all Daves assistants are great too! Thanks to all, see you Monday night!
Cathy, Jim and Kozar.
I’m very happy that 8 months ago i introduced my daughters’ (Breanne & Katie) dogs (Max and Autumn) to Dave Mcmahon. Before dog training max and autumns listening skills were basically in a “What did you say?” mode. Now when a commands are given to the dogs the commands are followed. I cannot believe how much Max and Autumn have changed since the first time that they were brought to dog training. i have also noticed that Breanne and Katiehave a lot more patience when it comes to handling their dog.
Thanks so much Dave.. this is the best dog training in the region and i would be more than happy to recommend you to anyone who is having problems with their dogs.
Thanks so much
Colette
About 3 years ago i had a bulldog named Oscar. I loved him dearly and I had behavioural issues with him as most dog owners have with any and every pup. So I naturally hired a dog trainer, this trainer came to my house for 10 weeks for an hour, i knew nothing about dog training other then what the usual book will tell you. Needless to say my dog died 1 year later by running onto the road and getting hit by a car…i was unable to call him back to me…so much for the training.
After that incident I was sour against dog training, until a Master Dog Trainer named Dave Mcmahon fell into my lap. I didn’t have a dog at the time…i wasn’t ready yet, but after meeting with Dave his passion quickly became mine; to educate and provide Dog Lovers and Owners of all sorts hope and success in making their bond with their dogs stronger and their quality of life much better.
I signed up as an Apprentice under Dave Mcmahon right away, still with no dog. Best thing I have ever decided to do in my life, more so than my University education.
The year and a half was a great experience, hands on approach to learning not solely based on note taking and theory. Eventually, when ready, Dave will actually let you teach a class yourself, and by the end of your course you leave with confidence and pride to be able to go out on your own to teach other handlers to train their dogs.
Halfway through the course I got a Bullmastiff named Luther who is the light of my life, he is very well trained partially thanks to me for being dedicated enough to follow Dave’s methods like they were the bible itself, and partially thanks to Dave for showing me the humane methods themselves. Luther is training in advanced obedience, narcotic detection, personal protection, man tracking, and pet therapy. All thanks to Dave and are a part of the trainer course.
I’ll leave this long message with advice for any future interested Apprentices and interested Dog Handlers,
some people are initially taken aback by Dave Mcmahon, his approach is unique in the sense that he rolls unsugar coated methods and fun in one big swoop. But after knowing him, it is refreshing, and I miss him even if i don’t see him for a week. His methods work….period. My dog will have a long and healthier life because of him..knowing that i can call my dog away from any fatal distraction. This course takes dedication…SERIOUS DEDICATION, and it’s not a “basket-weaving” course it is challenging, you will encounter different situations and different people that may not always be pleasent ones, but the difference is you will know how to assess them and come out on top professionally and positively. This course is not for everyone, in my almost 2 years of being with Dave I have seen many come and go without finishing. But if you have passion, dedication, and persistence at the end of the day you feel great and make a difference! Thanks Dave for being a friend, mentor, and role model all boiled into 1 big hilarious package! Lotz of love…Darla
Well i must say i learned just as much as my dog did. Koda did great in level one, i am very pleased with the training. Koda moves on to level two this week and i hope she does as well as she did in level 1. Dave you have great people helping you train your classes. Thank you for all your help.
See ya soon

Hi Dave!…impossible to follow all the nice, nice things I’ve just read on your website, from obviously well satisfied dog owners, that you have taught to become real dog lovers as well!
I can’t think of a better endorsement than to tell folk I will be starting our fourth year with McMahon’s Dog Training Academy shortly and looking forward to it as much as when we started.
Best Regards
Andrew
Hello Dave,
This is the second dog training school Max and I have been to. The first dog trianing school was at a place where I thought it would help my problem with my dog and it did not. Then I heard about you Dave McMahon and I wanted to give it a try and to see if my dog would listen to me. Max is the best well behaved dog considering for a beagle. I am very proud on mine and max approvement through out the dog training at Dave’s. Dave is the best dog trainer I have been with and I am glad to be on being in the second level.
Max and I have really accomplished alot and learn even more then I ever thought possible.:-)
I thank you very much Dave for teaching me on the proper way to use the training collar.:-)
Thank you again from Max and Katie
Hi Dave
Keep up the good work with all your classes. Thanks, Patricia
I run Sandy Lake Dog Rescue in northern Ontario and Akida, the June pet of the month is from the rescue. I fostered Akida and his littermates this past winter up here in Sandy Lake. His owner has been telling me how well he is doing in your classes. He is a very smart dog and like most huskies he gets bored quickly.
Our Julie loves people – a little too much. She used to jump on everyone, licking them and knocking them over. Now, after about 8 weeks of training, her whole body wiggles, but she usually stays on four feet!
I have had comments on how well-behaved my dog is, how quiet she is, and my in-laws don’t mind coming over now! I can also spend better quality time with my dog, walking with her, not being pulled by her. Thank you so much!
HI DAVE!!
WE ARE PROUD TO BRAG THAT MILTY IS SUCH AS GOOD BOY WITH ALL THE TRAINING AND GUIDANCE THAT YOU HAVE GIVEN US!!

Dave…The 10 weeks at your beginner class has made our 8 month old Golden a much nicer pet. We can now take him out in public without him acting up and we can have friends come over knowing that they won’t be jumped on!! Your methods really work…Toni
Thank you so much, hounds are a special challenge. With as big and strong as Rocket is becoming, I could never walk him by myself if it weren’t for your training (of me) and guidance (with him) We are so thrilled with how far he’s come and can’t wait for advanced classes to start!!!!
thanx dave for everthing!! we had an amazing experience in your intro level. Spencer is a model student of what following your guidance can lead to. We are very excited to get in touch soon to book private lessons with you and watch Spencer develop. we have reccomended u to all our friends!! thanks again dave!!
Dave and his crew are great.
Everyone is very helpful and any questions I ask they always had an answer for. This is my second dog that I have trained with the Dave Mcmahon system and it is absoultly amazing. Thanks To everyone there.
Hi Dave,
Just wanted to let you now I love the new online store. Your #1
Dave jr.
Hello everyone in doggie world. I have been a student teacher of Dave’s since July. Angel was the first puppy to graduate from Dave’s level one class for me. Her and I really enjoyed it and are still continueing to train with Dave in level 2. Kody is my problem child,i have just recently started him in level one. He is learning quickly as well.
I would recommened Dave to anyone looking for a Dog trainer. Dave is smart and is concerned for you and your pet all the time you are there.
and even if your not you can reach him by phone or email if you have a problem or forgotten how to do your homework.
Kudos to you Dave!!!!
Christine,Angel,Kody
Dave: Just a note to thank you from my heart for your kindness and patience shown towards owner and pet in Nelson’s training. You took an unmanageable and dominate Brittany and made him into a gentlemen. With your expert guidance I now understand why Nelson acted the way he did and I look forward to the Intermediate classes. Thanks again.
Hi Dave,
Just a note to say before starting your class I had to use a gentle leader with Sasha. She used to be really bad at pulling and after taking pet smart training classes was advised to use the gentle leader. It was a relief on my arm to say the least. However, Sasha didn’t like going for walks. As soon as we pulled out the leader she headed straight for her cage. (she loves her “bed”). Anyway, I have to say since using the prong collar on her, she actually gets excited about walks. She seems so much happier to put it on, even just to do “sit” exercises.
Thanks and I look forward to the rest of our training together.
Karen White
Julie Marr gave me your site. We adopted a pitbull who we had NO intention of adopting..and we fell in LOVE! Trying to train him responsibly. There are no bad dogs..only bad owners! We want to be GOOD owners!
Hello. We just wanted to take a second to say thank you for the awesome level one training class. We got Lucy from a pet store in St. Catharines, and when we first brought her home she was scared and very timid. She didn’t even want to go on walks or outside. Now, 4 months later…Lucy is a loving very happy puppy and thanks to your level one class Lucy is well behaved and understands basic commands. We would reccomend this class to anyone with a new puppy, or even anyone with an older dog that needs help with basic commands. Your training methods are very practical. Thanks again!! – Jen and Sam Blakeley
This is may second level in Dave’s class and i love it. If you want to learn a lot about training your dog all you have to do is come to a class. When you are there just listen, and FOLLOW the instruction to the T. Dave has a great deal of knowledge when comes to training dog, i wouldn’t go anywhere else.
Hi Dave,
what a great way to celebrate the New Year – a new training school! The new location is sooo nice – much larger, brighter, more room for observers, and a much better parking area! Hope everyone enjoys the new school for many years!
We just finished the 1st level of dog obedience training with Dave and his team and found it to be very enlightening. He dispelled alot of myths about dog training. His techniques were very precise and the dogs were able to grasp his methods in a short time. We loved the way Dave would inject alot of humour in the classes and that helped so much to lighten the mood. He’s a hoot !!!
Before going to Dave, we had many misconceptions about the types of dog collars used, one being the prong collar. We were totally against them but was informed by Dave and soon came to find out for ourselves, that when used properly, they are very effective and humaine. It is sooo nice to be able to walk the dogs now without them walking us. They are so well behaved now and can have friends over without the dogs jumping all over them. A friend had recommended Dave and am glad we chose to take our dogs to him.
We are looking forward to going on to the next level of obedience training.
Thanks Dave and team !!!
I’ve been a bad. I let my busy schedule take time away from Otis. We moved so there has been adjusting period on top of the busy schedule so his attitude has been AWFUL. So to start a new year off right; he’s getting more of my attention and his doggy social time back – I emailed Dave asking if we may come back to school. Dave welcomed us with open arms. Dave makes homework fun for me and for Otis! Dave’s a great guy!(hope you can make it to the walk this year-June 3)
It was a pure fluke that I ran into Dave and the training center.
There is a family that lives around the corner from me whom suggested I try the Dave MacMahon accademy. So I did.
WOW was I ever impressed with his knowledge and professionalism.
His techniques are bar none the best I have ever encountered
Thanks to Dave and Deb for their awesome classes and patience with Lincoln (my Doberman) and myself.Keep up the great work Dave
Just a note to thank all of you who provided baking and support for the bake sale to help the Niagara Falls Humane Society. The turnout was great, however I think the weather caused some to stay home where it was warm. It was nice to see familiar and new faces. I look forward to seeing you at training.
Kirsti
After a bad experince with our dog showing aggression towards our grand daughter. We decide to give our 7month old dog a last chance at a life with us by taking him for private obedience and behavior modification lessons. We had heard great praise for DaveMcMahon’s dog training school and gave it a try. The experience of level 1 training brought out the good dog we knew we had all along . Thank you Dave for helping us find a well behaved and better companion in our dog Marley Don and Lucille
Justice had spent the first couple months of her life on the street, so it was no surprise that when I got her, it took me a lot of effort not to spoil her ROTTEN! Since beginning your apprenticeship program and working Justice through Level 1 and 2, I have seen soo much improvement in her behavior…it’s amazing! I don’t even have to worry about her knocking over my little nephews when they visit anymore!
Your apprenticeship program has opened my eyes so much in the way of collars and the different methods for proper training of dogs. Thanks so much!
Dave McMahon is a family man. He devotes the same care and attention to his wife and children as he does to his business. The Dave McMahon Dog Training Academy is a reflection of the things he values. He has a commitment to quality as I have seen time after time.
Dave and I first met about 1 ½ years ago. I had a new rescue dog who needed basic obedience training. I called and Dave spent all the time I required to explain what he offers and how it will help integrate my dog into our family. He explained things so I understood. He provided an open invitation to any of his classes and advised me to also attend and see other trainers in the area before making a decision. My decision go with Dave was quickly made. Dave is upfront and says what he means. I appreciate that. Today that is hard to come by.
I feel he gives personal attention to everyone in the class. I was ecstatic that Ranger Dawg passed the course and I continued on to Intermediate. Buying a membership for a year made me feel a part of the training team. It motivated me to practice and show what Ranger was capable of. I didn’t feel as though he provided “get them in and get them out” service. He cares. I see it more and more every day. I enrolled my 9 year old Beagle into Novice and am quite satisfied to say that Bruin scored 100%. Both dogs have their Canine Good Neighbour also. This could not have occurred without the help and support of Dave.
I became so interested in his methods and training philosophy that I am now learning to become a Master Dog Trainer. With guidance, patience and knowledge you will learn how to provide the necessary role for your dog in your family.
We all know people who say one thing and do another. You won’t find that with Dave nor at his Training Academy. There is a system to his training. From day one to now, the basic training template has not been altered. This is because there is a philosophy behind the methods and Dave has over 20 years experience . He knows what has been tried and failed. His training is transparent. The tools he uses in the Academy are the ones he uses on his own dogs. I have put trust into this expert.
Please drop by and have a coffee. Relax in our seating area and watch a lesson. See for yourself what the Dave McMahon Dog Training Academy has to offer you. You may also want to bring the money to enrol your dog before you leave or as soon as you get home you can do it online through Ticketmaster.
Tell Dave, Ranger Dawg sent you. See you soon!
Sincerely,
Kirsti
Dave is an excellent instructor, we had my rambuncious palmeranian “comet” in his class and in a few sessions my dog was not as hyper and was more attentive to me. I felt welcome in dave’s classes; always! he always practices what he preaches.. as well has a great sense of humor… I recommend daves class to any dog – large or small.
I am in week 4 of daves classes with my toy poodle Tia. I have been training dogs for 15yrs now and ran into Daves method of training 5 years ago when I trained under his apprentice Brain. I was so impressed with this style of training that when I got my new puppy I imediatley signed up for level 1 with Dave. Dave is the best trainer I have ever had the pleasure of working with. His methods are humane and very effective and I highly recommend him to any person who owns a dog. Dave teaches practical obedience that every dog needs to have.
Hay Dave
I hope every wone reads this. I have known you for 15 years and you have tought me so many good things with our pets. Well my baby of 15 years has passed on Pretty Girl my she rest in peace .
Pretty Girl and i have had alot of fun Training with you.
Doing demonstrations, agility and all the leavels of obedience.
Now we have Shakita and are in train know. It is so nice to see that things are not the same as it was 15 years ago. I am so inpressed with the Knowledge you have gained since the old days. You have gain so many more new techniques. That it is like being a new student all over again. this is very refreshing. Well I could go on for quite some time but I do not think that the people can handle my spelling much more.
I would like to close with some advice. Listen to Daves every word, Do exactly what Dave says, do not miss a class and train every day.
Do this and you and your best friend will have a very fulfilling life and much joy. Hope to see you in class. I is worth every doller you spend on the training.
Fern larabie (FBI)
Well, it’s been a full year since I last posted in this list. Boy time sure flies when you’re having fun. The last time I posted here, we had been enrolled in the intermediate class for a couple months and were seeing daily improvements in Pal’s obedience, and enjoying the time we were spending with him and the others in the class.
Today, we have all but forgotten the behavioural issues that brought us to see Dave in the first place. He gave us the tools to deal with our dog and to make him a wonderful part of the family. Here we are, signed up for another exciting year of training with Dave and his team. It’s great to look back on the progress that we have achieved. I never would have imagined that we could turn a troubled and insecure dog into such a devoted pet, and never in my wildest dreams did I suspect that I would be looking forward to spending so much time at the McMahon Academy.
As Dave once told our class, “Owning a dog isn’t a six week crash course, it’s a way of life”. I recommend Dave’s methods and training to anyone that wants to truly experience and enjoy the potential of the relationship between themselves and their dog.
Thank you Dave!

Great grooming seminar last Saturday Dave. Learned a ton about nails, ears, coat etc. Recipes for your own shampoo and conditioner were informative, as well how to avoid ice buildup on paws in winter. Really enjoyed it and would highly recommend this seminar to all.
Spencer came to us as a rescue. At 3 years old, he did not have a very good life prior to coming to us. So, he was quite the handful and we didn’t know if he was past the point of being trained.
Dave was recommended to us by a friend and has been a real miracle worker. We are still amazed at how great Spencer’s turned out after taking the beginner course with Dave.
We highly recommend his classes to everyone.
Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed watching several of your public demonstrations this summer. As always, your dogs and students were on their best behaviour. As you know, I have been training with your former student, Trevor, for 2 years now, and it is always a pleasure to watch another professional achieve amazing results.

I think the best thing I have ever done with a pet was to enroll in Dave’s beginner training class. The time I spent with Jack was wonderful, he enjoyed longer walks, I enjoyed a well behaved dog. It a great time of bonding with your pet, they get more of the quality time with you, and the satisfaction of seeing my hard work pay off was all the reward I needed! Everyone is happy.
I don’t think that I have ever met anyone so excited about what they do as Dave. He is incredibly motivational, dedicated to his students, high energy and very entertaining. His enthusiasm definitely helped keep me on track, and I am really excited to continue to the intermediate level.
See you in class, Dave, thanks for everything!
Leah
billy bob is a reular joe thanks to your help
Dave: Even though I have been through your novice course with 3 other dogs, our newest rescue cattle dog, Maggie, has been enrolled in your Novice Class. She was really pulling her leash on our first walk, and with just a quick pop on her collar she is walking at heel, like she has been walking at heel for weeks. Your methods truly do work when used properly. Thanks again and we will be at class faithfully. Debbie
I want to personally thank you Dave for being a guest speaker recently at our Psychic group night.
Your topic Zen And The Art Of Dog Training was fantastic and so informative. The group really understands now even better how to communicate effectively with their dogs on all levels both physically and energetically.
Sat Nam my friend you really are our local Dog Whisperer.

Sake and I thoroughly enjoyed Dave’s classes, and practicing what we learned every day. Dave’s methods are concise and efficient, and he teaches them in such a way that is entertaining, simple, and effective.
Dave was very generous to spend extra time with Sake and I when we needed extra help, and I am very grateful! He instills confidence in his human students, which I feel is extrememly important in training. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me and my dog.
We will definitely be back to Dave McMahon’s Training Academy! Thanks Dave!

It’s been great when people come into our store and realize how well disiplined Casey really is. I’ve had so many compliments that when they ask where I’ve taken her I tell them to Dave and give them his card.
Thanks so much Dave it’s been a blast

Dear Dave:
I would like to thank you for an unforgettable month learning your system of obedience training. I researched for many months and found you over the internet and then took the plunge to join you for your obedience apprenticeship program. Ginger, Rocky and I were very excited when we took the ride to Niagara each day and thank you for allowing us all to grow. The amount of notes that I have and the amazing information you shared was fabulous.
As you may remember, my first day started in the wrong direction (literally). After driving from Oakville through bad weather I made a wrong turn in Niagara, and then was pulled over for speeding. I am sure you were thinking ok this apprentice will be a challenge!
I finally arrived on my first day and it was information overload. I was astounded how you had multiple answers for everything the clients asked and by the caring nature that you took with the dogs and their owners, regardless of their size, age or issue.
The next week was even more exciting! Ginger and I learned the helpless feeling of being charged at during an aggressive dog consultation. Luckily your signature EH stopped the dog in his tracks after you broke the leash. This same dog only two weeks later was sitting beside Ginger without a peep, quite amazing.
I am saddened that my daily journey is over but excited to venture into teaching others your training system. I thank you so much for your teaching and look forward to continuing to learn from you for years to come.
Sincerely,
Arlene Kiley
HI Dave,
Thank you for a fun five weeks as your apprentice! Zoey and I have learned so much and are enjoying ourselves teaching our first obedience class. All our students are responding well to your training techniques and are amazed at how well-behaved Zoey is during class. We are excited to come back to see you and everyone at your academy.

Dave you make the classes very fun and interesting. Thanks again for everything!!!
Hi Dave,
I just want to thank you for the wonderful training classes that Bryan and myself are going though to make Clark and big trustworthy saint, rather then a unsocialized, aggressive, behavioral issued dog! We have come so far that I can trust him around others and I do not fear what may happen! I am happy to continue the classes and he appreciates it !
Thanks a bunch
Krista, Bryan and Clark!
I am very impressed by the communication that I have received regarding training for our new puppy.
We made the choice to register with Dave based on the communicatin and viewing the website.
I must say that after the third class I am so very pleased with the amazing progress we have made.
Reading Dave’s book and the apprentices that he has helping are all amazing!
After the 3rd class I can now properly walk our puppy and I truly enjoy the walk and I feel that our puppy does as well!!!
I am so impressed on how quickly the puppy learns the commands and retains the information!! He is 3 1/2 months old and when we walk people comment on how well behaved he is. It really makes us all proud!!
I really look forward to the next class and enjoy practicing each and every day.
Thank you Dave and thank you to all your apprentices for allowing us to have an amzingly trained puppy.
Hello,
We have 2 dogs, Georgia is 9 months old and has been through Daves basic course and is currently in intermediate. We have found her and our 3 year old dog just won’t get along sometimes and can no longer keep her. Please call 905-351-1607 or email any questions. Thanks
Talk about a voice from the past! Several years ago, Toonie trained with Dave when the school was still located in the industrial park -who would have ever thought a little maltese would gain so much and love learning like she did! She is now 6 years old and is using everything she learned as she does her work as a therapy dog in Western New York. Once we moved here, we tried to find a school for our other dogs – but there is no one like Dave – the DOGFATHER! Trust me! I finally decided to pull out my notes and do it myself – Dave’s way! And it worked ten times better. We recently lost our oldest dog – Taffy – she is now a perfect Angel. The other dogs miss her and we have a huge hole in our lives. My point in this is to tell everyone to get out there and train and enjoy your dog TODAY – don’t wait or say you’ll do it next week. And Dave and his staff make it all possible with week by week measurable progress – We have had a lot of laughs thinking about little Toonie -smallest dog in her class – and she advanced and did well at all levels – She loved going to “school” and uses every bit of it every day! HUG YOUR DOG and let Dave show you how to make each day special.
all happy thoughts, I’ve had so many people come into our store and see how obedient Casey is, they ask how I get her to be so obedient, I just tell them Dave McMahon’s classes and consistancy. I have so many people that just love coming in that they keep coming back just to see Casey.
Thanks again for the great classes to learn from and send more people to.
Dear Dave,
I know class time is important, so instead I’m writing you this to let you know what’s happened with our training. After last class, which was technically BooBoo’s first training class on walking, she is no longer pulling me or misbehaving in any way during our walks!!!! The collar and leash are hanging loosely!
I finally took her to a very busy public trail (people, dogs, rollerbladers) for our walk and she was so good. I don’t even have to tell her what to do when we switched from the “OK” mode back to the “heel” mode. As soon as my hand grabs the leash at the collar area she immediately falls back beside me. She did get a little excited at another dog and a squirrel but she didn’t pull me, she just settled right down to continue our walk after I told her no and gave her a gentle tug. If you would have seen us, you’d be proud.
We’re looking forward to more learning, thanks so much!
Susan & BooBoo
I’m one of days apprentices. Taking his master trainer program.
Before I came to Dave I was working at a dog training academy as assistant K9 instructor located in Toronto for 3 years. there are many things that are different about Dave McMahon academy and the one I was working for.
Being a trainer or thinking to my self as one for I was trained by a so called professional I would have many Questions that most were left unanswered.
I would witness countless dogs that could not be reached. The way we would implement wanted behaviours’ was by stuffing our dogs with treats to the point many dogs would become sick on the ride home.
There is no need for me to continue any reasonable person could realize there is a better way.
As soon as I was introduced to Dave McMahon and the level of professionalism not to mention
The display of the most reliable dog I have ever encountered.
In many schools the trainers do not reveal there trade mark secret. They guard them with there lives.
Dave McMahon is like no other trainer I have ever come across he not only has a respectable answer to your questions. Most importantly Dave methods are the most humane I have come across. He tells you trade mark secrets things that no other person would reveal. This is why I consider him the best man for the job. He really wants you to be successful and you will proud of what you will accomplish
Growing up in a country that realize heavily on the K9 aspect of fighting terror, the old world methods are mainly shown by brute force and physical punishment.
Dave McMahon methods are New world there is no intimidation aggression displayed at any time what so ever.
You should come check out a class you will be amazed what you will see the level of enjoyment of the k9 and handlers Dave is the one and only Dog Father.
Sincerely Tom Joury

I started with Dave McMahon a year ago. It’s hard to believe that the year would go by so quickly. It’s been a pleasure apprenticing under Dave, as he not only provides excellent structured obedience classes, he keeps classes interesting with his sense of Humour.
I got my German Shepherd pup in the summer and was able to complete the 10 week obedience, and started into the Intermediate Level with her. The intermediate is able to teach your dog that no matter what the distraction may be they have to listen. This makes for an excellent relationship as well as a solid dog.
The last 6 weeks of our training we learned how to track and do personal protection work…what a blast!
If your looking for someone who has a great deal of experience as well as passion for what they do then Dave Mcmahon is the person to go to. Happy New year and all the best in 2010!
Dave McMahon has taken dog training and made it bullet-proof with his First Command Response Method! If the method is followed you will have amazing results and lots of fun! I encourge everyone to check out Dave McMahon’s videos on youtube and facebook to see what I’m talking about. Thank you Dave!

Teachers mean the world.
This comment is directed to the teachers @ Dave McMahon Dog training school located in niagara falls.
YOU GUYS ROCK I THINK PERSONALLY THAT AUNT CATHY IS A FEMALE REPLICA OF DAVE McMahon HIM SELF minus a few inches.
you want some on who gives you the same answer to your questions as if you heard it directly from the horse mouth.
If you are thinking of going to another dog training school.
you are off your ——- Rocker
Dave and Cathy are the real deal you cant get any better then that trust me.
Thats why im apprenticing under 2 Gurus.
i will see you in class.
I have been training under Dave McMahon for 3 mths. In that time we have seen many dogs come thru the doors with owners in tow. Under Dave’s first command method by the 2nd week the dogs will all be sitting @ the door before exiting, and you can just see confidence developing in the new “handlers”.
Dave has a way of building confidence thru passion for what he does (never mind an amazing dog behavourist) and some very entertaining classes. People dream of having as much fun @ thier “jobs” as Dave does.
I highly reccomend you drop by the Academy or catch the videos on u-tube, these are family dogs showing a piece of what Dave’s training is about.
Dave hasn’t been in business for 20 some yrs because he’s entertaining….. his method WORKS!
What a great time my little man and I have at dog school. I’m not sure which one of us enjoys it more. Dave, and his experienced trainers make it all so much fun. When I first started going I unfortunately became ill, and taking Mckenzie once a week for novice training was about all I could manage to do, but I have to say that everything Dave showed us to do to help our furry little kids really does work. I was very surprised that after the Novice training Mckenzie got a perfect score. So if you think that your pet is not listening and watching, trust me they are. We are now in the intermidiate training, and I wouldn’t stop going for the world. Not only is Mckenzie a very bright kid (with attitude) both he and I have so much fun, and yes much more to learn. We have both tried to be good students, but sometimes the classes are so interesting with Dave’s great sense of humor, that we forget we are actually at “school”. I have also met some great people who love their “kids” as much as I love Mckenzie, and I look forward to continuing all this year. Thanks especially to Cathy, Sho, and of course you Dave and your great wife Debbie. Whenever I am out with Mckenzie and people notice what a well behaved and loving dog he is I always tell “Go to the Dave McMahon’s Dog Training Academy” and you will see for yourself what a wonderful school it is. Again, thanks Dave. Claire
I just received an 11 month old Black Lab Pup and she wants to kill the cat, I could use some advice on how to reach balance in my home again, Does anyone no what to do as the cat is 13 delclawed and only 7 or 8 Lbs the dog is 70 . Help!!!!!
I recently adopted a 9 month old Lab Shepherd puppy from the Lincoln County Humane Society. I immediately knew I had to register her for some type of obedience training, so I began my research of trainers in the area. Dave McMahon’s resume far surpassed any of the other contenders. Each and every week of the novice course I see noticeable, positive improvements in Stella’s behavior and through the weekly homework assignments have gained a stronger bond with my puppy. The work taught in Dave’s course is thorough and consistent, and aside from our weekly group classes, Dave is always available to answer the never-ending questions. I have come to realize that Dave is here to train and challenge his clients, and there is nothing more rewarding when you see the positive change in your dogs behavior. Stella and I are enthusiastic about our future training with Dave, and feel like we have become part of a family.
I completed my Dog Trainer Apprenticeship under Dave McMahon and now I’m successful in operating my own Training SChool in the Niagara Region.

Keep up the great work with the dogs Dave!!
I have a 2 year old Bull Mastiff, and was wondering if it was too late to start training him and wondering if he would be in the Novice classes? He is very hyper and with a 2 year old boy at home its hard to keep them together and would like him to be a part of the family and not have to lock him in the kitchen all the time. Any suggestions, PLEASE HELP!
Give Dave a call, Its never too late to start training. Dave can give you more information about your situation.
If you want an obedient well socialized family pet look no further than taking your dog to Dave. Having a dog is a very important commitment and a major responsibility. Do not waste valuable time in a pet food store taking instruction from someone who has attended an 8 week program and does this part-time. This is how Dave McMahon supports his family and has been for years. He has dedicated his life to training thousands of owners and their dogs so they may become K9 good citizens and truly a member of the family. I speak from experience after spending over 2 years with Dave training my own dog and now returning with our new pup.
“In a perfect world, every dog would have a home and every home would have a dog.”
Don’t make the mistake of not training your dog.
Thanks Dave!
Rob
Dave, I love your podcasts.
